Two Stewardesses Claim to Be Drugged by the Pilot, One Is Raped
Two JetBlue flight attendants filed a lawsuit after claiming to have been sedated by the pilot during a stopover in Puerto Rico. One of them was sexually abused.
The two plaintiffs identified as "Jane Doe number one" from Riverton, Utah state, and "Jane Doe number 2" from Fort Worty, Texas state, said two pilots on one of the JetBlue flights allegedly gave beer laced with drugs, before one of the victims was raped during a stopover in Puerto Rico in May 2018.
The lawsuit, which was filed on Monday, also claims that the pilot intentionally transmitted a sexually transmitted disease to number one Jane Doe, as quoted by NBC News on Friday (22/3).
It said the two plaintiffs, along with a third female colleague, arrived in San Juan - the capital city of Puerto Rico - after serving on a flight from Washington DC in May, and continued checking into the hotel provided, before going to beach.
The crew is scheduled to leave Puerto Rico for Newark, New Jersey state, the following day on May 10, 2018.
Each of the victims said they were sitting by the beach when two men, known to be JetBlue pilots, came over to offer opened cans of beer. The plaintiff said the drink had been laced with anesthetic.
Incidents of sexual harassment were strongly suspected at this time. Number one Jane Doe said she couldn't remember anything from being sedated, and when she woke up, she realized she had been raped by the pilot who gave her the beer.
After the pilot allegedly sexually assaulted Jane Doe number one, he also allegedly raped a third female crew member, who was not part of the lawsuit.
The pilot in question then allegedly said: "Thank you for making my fantasy come true."
As for Jane Doe number two, in the same lawsuit, said that she did not get raped because she woke up sooner and just left it on the beach.
Overall, the lawsuit was filed to highlight misuse and assault allegedly taking place during a JetBlue-related stopover in Puerto Rico, as well as marking the airline's failure to respond to complaints.
Moreover, the lawsuit is also a reminder that the incident in Puerto Rico violates laws against sex discrimination, gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and harassment of the work environment.
However, to date, JetBlue has not wanted to provide a legal response to the above lawsuit, except to say that it will seriously investigate the related claims thoroughly.
"We seek to create a respectful work environment for all crew members, where they feel welcome and safe," the company said.
JetBlue was also reluctant to respond to questions about what kind of disciplinary action the two pilots allegedly involved in a sexual harassment case against.
The world pilots union, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), said in a statement: "As this is an active lawsuit, ALPA is unable to comment on specific incidents.
